How fortunate are we that we live in a world where hundreds of binge worthy TV shows and movies are available on our computers, phones, game consoles and smart TVs? The answer: So incredibly fortunate (even if the Netflix Canada collection pales in comparison to our Southern neighbours). As if that wasn’t enough, we also live in a country where cannabis is legal. CBD oils, infused edibles, and endless viewing material: I think we found the perfect match.
Here are 10 shows you should absolutely be binging during the rest of summer, and the perfect goodies to go along with your viewing experience.
10. The Good Place
We’ve all wondered about what happens in the afterlife, and this NBC sitcom does a brilliant job of *sort of* answering that question. It would be impossible to say anything about this show without giving away any spoilers, so I will leave you with this: Good Place. Bad Place. Ted Danson. Get your Aloha Pre-Rolls ready, take a few puffs and prepare to get super duper philosophical.
9. Queer Eye
If you haven’t seen Queer Eye yet then DROP EVERYTHING YOU’RE DOING and watch season 1 episode 1. The smile on your face after is permanent, in case you were wondering. Jonathan, Karamo, Antoni, Tan and Bobby are 5 of the most uplifting, engaging, loving and adorable gay men on the scene right now (maybe ever?) and watching them go around changing lives and perspectives is truly a gift to us all. You’ll be in the best mood after watching their life-makeovers so keep that high going by taking care of yourself– Starting with a new skincare regime featuring LOA All-Purpose Oil. Jonathan would be so proud.
8. Baroness Von Sketch Show
Some sketch comedy is so GOLD that it is a disservice to yourself to miss it. This all-female cast of Canadian comedians put together a raucous laugh riot that mocks stereotypes of women, oppressive views of queer culture, the male gaze and a whole slew of other topics. If you were/are a fan of Kids in The Hall, then this show is for you. Get your laugh on with your girlfriends and a few Mary’s Medibles Fudge Brownies (because we women love our chocolates, am I right?).
7. Workin’ Moms
Another instant Canadian classic, CBC’s Workin’ Moms is a show that I saw a ton of bus stop posters for but never watched. When I finally hunkered down and put it on, I was straight shook that it took me so long to introduce this gem to my life. The show follows the women of a mommy group and provides an honest look at how they manage work life, home life, post-partum depression, sexual anxieties, infidelity and everything in between. You’ll definitely be inspired to find some balance in your own life, and Calyx Boost CBD Tincture is a great start.
This one is kind of a guilty pleasure, but if you’re not living for Canadian-born mega-host Alex Trebek then you’re simply not living. If you are anything like me then quizzing is a sport and Jeopardy is the Olympic Game. You’re gonna wanna get your focus on if you want to be one step ahead of the geniuses on the panel, and what better way to get your head in the game than FeelCBD Focus Drops? I’ll take “Plant-Powered Wellness” for 800, please.
5. I Think You Should Leave
Goofy, irreverent, bananas, bizarre, painful stomach cramps from laughing too hard: These are just a few ways I would describe this strange and hilarious sketch comedy show. Created by SNL writer Tim Robinson, this exaggerated look at the things in life that make us feel awkward and uncomfortable is a must-watch for those of you who enjoy cringe comedy (and honestly, those of you who don’t are missing out). You’re gonna wanna be high as a kite for this one– Might I suggest some Buudabomb Black Vegan Gummies?
4. Schitt’s Creek
What do you get when you cross a once insanely wealthy and affluent family with bankruptcy and small-town hijinks? A hilarious TV experience with equally lovable and morally questionable characters, riotous family dynamics and wigs for days (courtesy of the fabulous Catherine O’Hara). If you’re a fan of Christopher Guest’s rag-tag team of comedic geniuses (This is Spinal Tap, Best in Show) then this one is right up your alley, and the perfect binge show for hitting a mind-relaxing Kind Lab Disposable Pen.
3. Orange Is The New Black
In trying to keep this list light, I almost hesitated to add this because of the often depressing plotlines and heavy character arcs. Alas, between the friendships, romances and *reasonable and caring* prison guards, there is enough heart-warming content to change my mind. A Netflix list would be naked without including one of the most popular shows to binge watch. Pretty much any treat tastes great when you are faced with a group of characters who would *kill* to change places with you, so go nuts with this one! (Literally, nuts, as in Sweet Jane Milk Chocolate Hazelnut).
2. Rupaul’s Drag Race
If you have yet to embark on the life changing journey that is Rupaul’s Drag Race, then you are in for the best treat of your life. Iconic supermodel of the world Rupaul Charles judges a variety of FUEGO drag queens in a series of over-the-top challenges that test their sewing, comedic, acting, song-writing, show-hosting, dancing, styling skills. The drama is lit and the queens are LEGENDARY. Take in the vibrant colours of the queens’ workroom while you chow down on some Mary’s Medibles Caramel Popcorn. Consider your life significantly improved.
1. The Office
This is number one on the list because it is arguably the greatest single-camera comedy of all time AND it is being removed from Netflix in 2021 (cue tears). There is a 100% chance of laughter when it comes to the wild antics of Michael Scott, Dwight Shrute and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin gang, so you should definitely enjoy a smile-enhancing Baked Edibles Mile High Mint Bar while you binge. (Why mint? That’s Michael’s favourite flavour, of course!)
