CBD is quickly becoming a go-to medication for humans and pets alike. Because we have the same endocannabinoid system as our furry little friends, we tend to respond to CBD’s healing qualities in the same way. For the past decade, CBD has been a natural way for people to relieve a variety of problems from minor to major diseases and pains; because of our shared ECS, our pets can experience the same soothing effects of CBD. Hooray! There is nothing more important than making sure our loyal pals are as healthy and happy as they can be so if your pet is exhibiting signs of pain and/or discomfort, here are some things you should know about the natural pain killer that is cannabidiol.
Our pets are prone to joint pain and inflammation. Scientific studies show that CBD helps to fight inflammation and fortunately, research continues to grow on the extent of the cannabinoid’s healing properties. Some studies even suggest that CBD is 20x stronger than aspirin when it comes to providing anti-inflammatory properties. Through all of the theories and speculation, one thing is for sure in that this kind of relief makes a huge difference in our daily lives. Naturally, it makes a difference in the lives of our pets, too! When our pets are experiencing discomfort, it can be difficult for them to express their feelings to us due to the whole “not being able to talk” thing (if you have a talking animal, you should probably contact Ellen ASAP). The first step in identifying whether or not CBD can be helpful to your pet is recognizing your pet’s signs of discomfort.
Pets have a variety of non-verbal ways to make their pain known to their owners. This may include:
- Lack of Mobility
- Decreased Appetite
- Excessive Panting
- Sad disposition
If your pet is experiencing one or more of these signs or others, then CBD might be the ticket to putting the pep back in their step.
CBD may be a better alternative to prescription medication
When it comes to our pets, natural healing is a safe way to promote a long and happy life together. Given the available research and case studies on using CBD as a painkiller, there are currently no known side effects. Certain prescription medications administered to cats and dogs have been known to cause serious irritation, often making them feel worse before feeling better. These side effects can be minimal to extreme, from skin irritation and lack of mobility to seizures and severe abdominal pain. This is certainly not what we want for our companions! Opting in for a balanced dose of CBD may just be what the vet ordered.
CBD is a known anticonvulsant, a powerful painkiller, and an antiemetic.
This means it can be helpful for your pet when they are experiencing seizures and tremors, acute and chronic pain, nausea and vomiting. It is important to note that while CBD can not altogether cure serious illness in pets such as cancer, it can help out with the intensity of their pain. Administering CBD is simple for both pet and owner as there are a variety of ways to get the cannabinoid into your pet’s system. This includes:
- Edibles (homemade or purchased treats)
- CBD Oil (organic or hemp products)
At Birch + Fog, we offer a variety of CBD products made exclusively for pets, so talk to your vet and decide whether or not CBD is the right fit for your furry, scaly or feathered best friend.
