Sarah-Eve Leduc is the founder and creative director of Flanelle Magazine, a Montréal magazine about design, fashion and photography. Printing locally and using Hewlett-Packard MagCloud web service to self-publish on demand, Flanelle is one of many independent medias around the world using this service to spread the print gospel.
Why is self-care important to you?
In order to function well, to feel happy and to produce positive energy, self-care is one of the most important things that people sometimes forget because they are so focused on work, helping others, etc.
Describe your morning self-care ritual.
My mornings are simple. The majority of times I wake-up without an alarm, when I feel like waking up. I motivate myself to go for a run, otherwise I will make myself a nice cup of coffee and start my work day.
What was the first thing you did when you woke up this morning?
Changed into my training outfit with running shoes, and went running in the park before my brain realized it was awake. It’s my little life hack, otherwise I don’t do it later during the day.

What was the last thing you did before you went to sleep last night?
Installed myself in bed with a book ( currently reading Wildchilds by Eugenia Melian ) with a chamomile tea. And whenever I’ll buy a house, it is absolutely necessary for me to have a beautiful bathtub where I’ll be able to take long hot baths right before bed.
Why do you think there is limited male leadership around self-care?
This is a great question, in my opinion there has been this conception of the strong male figure, that doesn’t cry, that is emotionally stable, etc, and although times have changed, mentalities take a while to shift. But it is starting to be better, I’m just thinking about the youtuber Matt D’Avella who’s super transparent about self-care and mental health, and tries things such as not drinking caffeine, cut sugar, meditate 1 hour a day and quit social media for 30 days. He spoke about his depression and mental health issues, but it is true that male leaders are less prone to talk about self-care and wellness in that sense.
What does “wellness” mean to you?
Taking care of your mind, body and soul. As cliché as it sounds.
Is there a product you don’t leave the house without?
My phone 🤳

Do you use CBD or cannabis for wellness? If so, how does it make you feel?
I only use CBD without THC after dinner, to relax after a long day or when I know the next day might be stressful. It doesn’t make me feel anything, actually. But some of my anxiety just disappears so I can focus on stressful things without that stress.

I think the moments that matter most in life are the accumulation of micro-moments that make you or others feel happy. Obviously a big change like buying a house or traveling to your dream city can really matter, but spending everyday of your life with your loved ones and happiness are the moments that matter the most to me.

What are your favorite supplements, herbs, and healthy necessities?
In the morning, I love almond or oat milk coffee. After dinner I sometimes use some CBD, and a chamomile, mint or vanilla tea before bed.
What is the one wellness trend we’ll never see you try?
I guess there isn’t much I won’t try in life, because I like to think of myself as pretty open-minded. But the first thing that comes to mind is drinking raw eggs? And to another extent I’ve seen IV drips with vitamins and mineral infusions. I’m sure it’s good, but….. injections are a big no!
What are some of your favourite healthy foods?
Cucumber salad is amazing. My aunt taught me to do it. It’s only cucumbers that are cut in very thin slices in a bowl with salt. After a few hours you can take out the water from the cucumbers. It makes them crunchy but flaky, with shallots, black pepper, oil and white vinegar.
What are you currently doing and how did you get into this field?
I am the founder and editor in chief at Flanelle Magazine, and I’m also a wedding photographer and content creator for brands. I like to say that I just jumped in the field, really. Just start doing what you love.
How do you balance a busy career as well as a healthy personal life?
Listening to your body and needs is super important. When you feel drained and in need to take care of yourself, actually make time for it. A healthy and rested entrepreneur will work more efficiently and be more creative than someone who’s becoming a zombie at work.
What’s your mantra of the moment?
If you do nothing, nothing will happen.
What is one piece of advice you wish you could tell your younger self?
Health is wealth! When you’re younger you think you’re invincible, then you hit 30 and realize how important your health is.
