3 CBD Cocktails That Are Way Better Than A Quarantini 3

Let’s be real, a Quarantini is just a regular martini that you drink alone in your house. Across Canada, many stay-at-home restrictions are slowly being lifted just in time for the warmer weather to kick in. Both of these factors offer up the perfect opportunity to have a few friends over to social distance in the back yard, or just cheers in the park to the fact that you survived a few tough months!

Here at B+F, we are advocates for total wellness, which includes taking some time to relax and celebrate the small wins and simple pleasures, as well as nice cocktail once in a while. But as always balance is key, so why not give your cocktail a little oomph without the extra OUCH the next day. Enter CBD cocktails, a foodie trend that could have no better time to shine than now. CBD not only enhances the taste of certain classic cocktails, but also enhance the feelings of relaxation you experience from a good sipper.

Beyond its purported health benefits, CBD can lead to a number of different flavor and texture enhancements in certain cocktails. Although it’s natural taste is mostly neutral, it does have earthy plant-like notes that can add a pleasant complexity to certain drinks. Because it is an oil, it also can add a viscous mouthfeel that works well in certain stirred cocktails.

“We’ve found that gin-based drinks and other cocktails with a botanical twist work well, mostly because they’re also terpene-rich,” says Rachel Burkons, founder of the culinary cannabis company Altered Plates.

CBD doesn’t contain THC, and therefore will not get you high, but it will still deliver a little extra sedation and relaxation when added to a cocktail. “It gives you a different kind of ‘buzz’ for a relaxed state of mind,” says Zsolt Csonka, owner-bartender at Adriaen Block, New York City’s first dedicated CBD bar. “After two drinks, you should find yourself feeling calm and mellow.”

For cocktails, you will want to use a CBD tincture that does not include any essential oils or flavour in it’s ingredients, but rather is just a combination of CBD Oil and a carrier oil like Grapeseed of MCT oil. Mary’s or B+F CBD Tinctures are both great options.

Here are three of our favourite summer cocktails whose flavour profiles are fresh while being complimented by the earthy notes in CBD Oil. Not only are these drinks easy to make, but they’ll also look gorgeous on any table and are totally Insta-post worthy. Are you drooling yet?

Grapefruit Rosemary CBD Cocktail

Rosemary simple syrup and gin pair beautifully with CBD and tart grapefruit juice in this cocktail. Gin-based drinks and other cocktails with a botanical twist work well with CBD because they’re also terpene-rich. Many of their notes are also the building blocks of flavor in hemp.
